Rankin Bass stop motion archive added to VFX archive page

Fans of the old Christmas specials from the 60's and 70's will enjoy this addition to the VFX archive page.

It's a collection of photos and behind the scenes footage from the Rankin Bass animation specials. The stop motion motion puppetry was excellent considering the limited resources the production had. Most of the animation for these films were produced in Japan but commissioned by the US based Rankin Bass company which also collaborated with Japanese producers to make "King Kong Escapes".

Enjoy these great behind the scenes photos and feel free to comment and which ones you like the best

The art of Ralph McQuarrie

Just added a new gallery featuring the amazing art of concept artist/designer Ralph McQuarrie. Most people know him from his work on Star Wars films but many do not know that he designed the saucer family from *batteries not included, the spaceships from Cocoon, the starfighter from Buck Rogers or the ships from Battlestar Galactica. Enjoy this gallery of his amazing work

The early films of George Lucas

Take a look at this blog from Kitbashed. It contains a collection of early student and experimental films by George Lucas and you can tell by looking at them what his earliest influence were. His facination with speed, editing, and graphics are very evident here. there's some amazing stuff here and many of his design influence carried over to his feature films
