Elevator Pitch- Film Technology VFX Database

My proposal is to create a large on-line database of visual imagery and visual effects technology references to be used for historical purposes. The database will be free on line and supported by advertisement links and donations. It will be open to anyone and used as a sort of on-line museum for the purposes of information and historical reference and preservation.

Styled as a database, links will take users to pictures, jpegs and text information. User in the industry will be able to donate pictures and sketchs for historical preservation. the creators of the websites will seek cooperation from the major and independent studios in exchange for promotion of their content.

  1. This is a very interesting concept, Cool. In essence, you're taking one of the most technologically advanced artistic mediums and creating a repository in a similarly creative and technological way. Lucas and Spielberg would be proud!

I especially like the idea that this site would be equal parts classroom and museum. You've made a great point throughout your posts that the world of VFX is forgetting its traditional roots. Hopefully, with the help of your database, students and visual artists alike will be inspired to create using this art form again. Well done!

  2. You know pitches Cool. When writing pitches and proposals, you should start small. In the same way you should write your first script without kids and animals and major VFX, you should start any pitch and proposal without taking on more than you can accomplish. If you want to start an institution or museum to preserve VFX history, start small with an online database and archive that doesn’t require contractors yet. Start with a blog that gets your mission out there. Keep writing about your subject until you can speak concisely about your goals. A proposal is something you rewrite again and again until your goals stand accomplished before you. With your blog and Facebook, you are already pitching. You already think this way because of your experience with the industry. Keep going.

Again, my only critique is to think more about the larger audience. Film buffs and industry people will enjoy your rich articles and jargon and images without fail. In all your work though, (and especially in Facebook,) you want to keep the layman in mind. You want to expand your audience. You want to teach and engage people who have no idea what VFX means. Keep this in mind in terms of the database too.

    Good work.
